Flute, Clarinet, and Saxophone

Hi everyone! My name is Nena and I am the woodwind teacher here at Leading Tone Music Studio. If you are interested in learning clarinet, flute, or saxophone, let me walk you through what we will cover in lessons.

Teaching Philosophy

As woodwinds teacher, I want my students to develop their passion for music-making; to acquire perseverance and discipline in performing. Students will also develop a commitment in reaching their goal which in the long run will transform them into better individuals. I want them to become confident in sharing their talents to the community. As the students learn in this program, they will acquire a fine taste of music while having fun learning their instruments.

Age Group

I offer lessons for students from ages 9 to 99. I always believe that one is never too old to learn an instrument, as long as you have an interest or passion for it.

Tone Production

One of the most important aspects of woodwind playing is the tone production, as these instruments have distinct tone color or timber from one another. I design different modules for each student depending on the need to develop a good embouchure that enhances tone production when playing the flute/clarinet/saxophone for a more effective performance.

Breathing Technique

Like in singing, I teach the students the proper breathing technique as one of the important aspects in woodwind playing. Proper breathing technique lets the performer achieve beautiful phrasing and expressive lines when playing a musical piece.

Style

I help the student understand the proper interpretation of their music by giving them varied repertoire. Exposing them to different genres and music literature behind the pieces gives students a robust understanding of musical styles.

Playing solo or with the group

I like to train my students to develop self confidence in performance. Every aspect of music-making will be emphasized here. Students become well-rounded individuals who are happy to play solo and at the same time, are excited to collaborate with others, even in a large group.
